1.Do I need to apply for a student visa and how long
is the visa duration?
All students who intend to study in Australia need to apply for
a student visa. If approved, the student visa generally covers the
duration of the course.
2.Where, when and how do I apply for a student visa? Where
can I obtain the visa application forms?
2.1 If you are enrolled in a
degree/diploma/certificate program and hold a Singapore/Malaysia
passport, please log in to www.immi.gov.au to apply for an eVisa,
upon receipt of your eCOE.
2.2 For other nationalities, please check
your assessment level at
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1219i.pdf to check whether you
are eligible to apply for an eVisa. Check against your country and
the visa subclass. If "1" is indicated and you are above 18 years
old, then you are eligible for eVisa application.
2.3 For non-Singapore citizens, please bring
along the following:
- 3 passport sized photographs
- Valid Passport (original & copy)
- Original dependant's pass/ student pass/ work permit/employment
pass/ Singapore permanent resident status, for sighting and a
photocopy.
- Original copy of your highest educational qualifications and a
photocopy.
- Evidence of Funds: Latest Bank Statements showing
balances.
3.Where do I go for my medical checkup and do I have to pay
for it?
Medical checkup must be done by one of the panel of doctors. You
are responsible for paying the medical fee.
The clinic takes about 5 to 7 days to deliver the medical report
to the IDP office.
4.What are the documents needed for student visa
application?
Please refer to Question 2.3 above
5.What is an e-COE?
e-COE stands for "Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment" . An
e-COE is created by IDP when a student pays the required
institution tuition fees through IDP. The institution takes about
3-10 working days to approve and release the e-COE.
IDP will mail you a copy of the approved e-COE for your e-Visa
application or submission with your paper VISA application.
If you have already submitted your student visa application to
IDP, our counsellors will automatically link up the e-COE with your
application.
6.Do I have to submit my Passport?
Yes, you have to submit your passport if you are doing
paper-based application.
All e-VISA applications need not submit passport.
7.How long does it take for a student visa to be
approved?
It takes about 2 to 3 weeks upon receipt of medical reports
and/or other required documentation, and subject to medical
clearance. However, during peak periods (December to February, June
to July), it might take longer for the student visa to be
approved.
8.How do I know when my student visa is approved?
If you have submitted your visa application together with your
passport through IDP, IDP will issue you a green slip - "Passport
Acknowledgement/Collection Card". Once your visa has been approved,
IDP will call to inform you that your passport is ready for
collection.
On the other hand, if you have applied for e-VISA, you can click
on Check the progress of an application, found on the
www.immi.gov.au website.
9.Can I authorize someone to collect my passport/student
visa on my behalf?
Yes. You have to write an authorization letter giving the
authorized person's name and I/C No. The authorized person need to
produce his/her identity card or passport, as well as the "green
slip."
