The University of Western Australia

Established in 1911, The University of Western Australia (UWA) is the premier university in the state of Western Australia, and is regarded as one of Australia's top research institutions. It is the only Western Australian institution to be a member of the prestigious Group of Eight, a collaboration of Australia's leading research institutions.

In October 2005 Professor Barry Marshall, a UWA graduate and researcher and his colleague Emeritus Professor Robin Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine by the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet for their discovery of "the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and its role in gastritis and peptic ulcer disease."

Student Services

UWA offers a range of services designed to support students while on campus, including a careers centre, counselling services, a medical centre, housing service and a resource centre for improving learning and research skills. Individual services for international students include airport reception and transfer, a comprehensive programme as well as a re-entry programme.

There are 5 residential colleges on campus which provide a caring and secure environment ideal of students living away from home for the first time.
