The Australian National University (ANU) was founded as
Australia's centre for world-class research. Our researchers and
their work have led the University to be ranked as Australia's top
university and one of the three top universities in *Asia .
Research conducted at the University has won Nobel Prizes and,
importantly, made a difference in people's lives.
What does this mean for you?
As an undergraduate student you will be studying psychology with
some of the most acknowledged research leaders in psychology
world-wide. Importantly, our educational programs are driven by the
research we are doing ourselves in such key areas as social
psychology, clinical and health psychology, and the psychology and
neuroscience of cognition and perception.
What makes us different from other leading universities?
At the ANU we get to know our students. Our first year courses
have about 350 students, rather than the much larger numbers that
you will encounter in many other universities, and our laboratory
classes have no more than twenty students. At the same time we take
a comparatively large number of students (45 – 50) into our Honours
program.
Student Profile – Aaron Tan
Bachelor of Science (Honours)

Having diverse interests and abilities can make it difficult to
choose what to study. Twenty-four year old Aaron Tan, from
Singapore, faced this problem, with competing interests in
psychology and computing. When he started to explore his options,
it became apparent that this combination was not commonly offered.
“It required the university to be flexible and robust in the manner
in which courses were offered”, said Aaron. One name kept coming up
- ANU
Aaron enrolled in a Bachelor of Science with a double major, in
Psychology and Computer Science. In particular, he was drawn to the
reputation of the School of Psychology. “The list of staff
achievements is impeccable. It brings together a group of world
class academics who are experts in their respective fields of
study”, said Aaron. Aaron has found that ANU is far more than
simply a place to get a degree. "You get addicted to the place and
the great people - it's a place where a student gets fully invovled
in his or her education, while making good friends."
How to Commence Your Studies in Psychology at ANU
