Canning College, established in
1982, is a senior college in the Department of Education and
Training, Western Australia. The College specialises in providing
pre-university courses – Diploma of Commerce, Certificate lV
(Commerce), WA Universities’ Foundation Program, Year 12, Year 11
and Bridging (academic and English upgrading courses).
The College has played host to significant
numbers of Singaporean students since 1982, most of whom have gone
on to tertiary studies at quality universities in Western Australia
(The University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University,
Curtin University of Technology and Murdoch University), other
Australian cities and overseas (eg the USA, UK, NZ, Singapore and
Malaysia).
As an adult college, Singaporean students can
feel welcome and mix comfortably with students from other countries
as well as local Australian students. Student centered
learning strategies and adult ethos make Canning College an
excellent place to prepare for the challenges of a university
education.

The College’s success rate for students
entering a tertiary course is excellent - over 80%. The success of
the students is largely due to the educational advantages Canning
College provides – small sized classes (25 maximum), experienced
and expert teachers, excellent resources in classrooms and
libraries and first rate electronic learning systems.
Aside from first class academic services,
Canning College also provides the full range of support services
and facilities including: accommodation, orientation, learning
support programs, counseling/advising, cafeteria, recreation
centre, library, open access to computers and many more.

The diploma courses are the equivalent
of first year university and successful completion of
either the Curtin or UWA Stream leads to a guaranteed place
in year two Bachelor of Commerce or Economics at the
relevant university. The numerous attributes of this
specialized program leads to the current rate of success for
students entering year two of a remarkable 85%. Entry is
from A Levels or equivalent final secondary
qualifications. Both Curtin and UWA are very popular with
Singaporean students – Canning provides a quality pathway to both
as well as other universities.
